American jockey Alexa Pessoa, wife of Brazil’s Rodrigo Pessoa, took home the Grand Prix Alvalle, held at the CSI4* in Fontainebleau, France today. Set at 1.45, with a total fifty rider, only nine riders qualified through to the jump off with only five combinations jumping clear in both rounds.

It was Connecticut-born Alexa Pessoa who earned the fastest time of 47.50 seconds aboard Levade 35. The tall blonde beauty was followed by Jessica Mendoza and Spirit T, crossing the finish line at 48.83 seconds. Alise Oken, trained by Laura Kraut, rode Belmont to a clear round in 49.32 seconds.

Talking with Alexa…

How long have you had Levade? “We bought Levade in February from Jay Land. She was showing with his daughter Taylor in Florida in the High Amateur division. She is a very special mare with a big heart and a fierce competitive nature.”

What are your competitive plans this year? “Compete more through out the CSI2* & CSI3* circuit? This was my first 2* Grand Prix win. I plan to stay in the 2* division in Villach, Treffen and Chantilly and then a few 3* including Dinard and possibly San Giovani later this summer”

How does it feel to watch your husband compete in Cannes one week and then you yourself dominate in the ring the next? “I love going to the shows to support Rodrigo but today he really made time to help me with my horse. It’s a balance. He was so excited today and there is nothing better than working together to win.”
